Good grief. Tell him to shove it, would be my advice, but it's none of my business. I think His Dark Materials is a lovely series and if it generates an interesting conversation between child and parent, even better. If nothing else, it can be framed as "this isn't what we believe, but there are a lot of other people in the world with different beliefs..."
