Seems like the enforcement policies are inconsistent and depend on who you get that day at security. I fly through Newark often, including just a few weeks ago. I have never had to remove my ereader out of my bag at any airport, domestic or international. Now that I wrote that, I will probably have to remove it on my next trip!
