Cover or No Cover would depend on how easily you could replace the Kindle if it breaks. My kids bought me an Amazon Cover (no light) for my Birthday Kindle. I rather like having a cover . It makes me feel more relaxed about placing it on a table where someone might put something on it or drip tea over it.

For travelling, I've just bought a toiletry bag from Superdrug for under £4 which is big enough to hold the Kindle in its cover but small enough to fit into my handbag. It'll keep off damp in a downpour and stop handbag gunge getting into it.
