My flow is similar to yours, but I carry an iPad around. It goes in my messenger bag to and from work every day and I listen to music, podcasts, read ebooks (on the metro) and occasionally play games.
Thanks. I also have several speaker docks scattered about the house. That way, I can take my radio streams and audiobooks with me as I move from room to room. At first, I moved my speaker dock from room to room, but that got to be a pain in the neck mighty fast. So I bought a few more docks and scattered them about (bedrooms, kitchen, study, living room, etc).

For the kitchen, I got a smaller dock - the iHome iP11 (less than $40 at Costco). I placed it in an upper cupboard (drilled a small hole in the bottom for the power cord) so it was out of the way from kitchen spills and splashes. It stays there permanently. It makes working in the kitchen very pleasant now.

Anyway, something for you to consider getting along with the iPod.
