Calibre loads fairly quickly for me even on older hardware so that leads
me to believe that you have something amiss with your computer.

I would suggest:

1. Removing hamster

2. Run CCleaner from CCleaner.com

3. Re-Installing Calibre

I'm a beginner with Calibre and at first found it a bit confusing, but I
just read the doc and played with it until I figured out how to use it.
