Thanks for the suggestion Peter but this problem does seem to be quite common. I think I will just let my ticket with Kobo die rather than go through any further aggravation with them and wait for someone here on MR to post when they fix the issue.
In the meantime I am starting to enjoy reading on our iPad which happily loads all my books purchased from Kobo, Borders, Amazon - anywhere really.
I've also been looking at the Big W and Dick Smith websites to check out the Kindle which will be available in Australia in a few weeks - if Kobo doesn't fix the problem soon I might just be tempted.
Although I hate the look of that keyboard thing at the bottom - maybe I need to wait for the rumoured release of the next Kindle ....
