I get a better DL of metadata from using filename metadata but sometimes Calibre does something totally unexpected. I find having extracted covers a good check for DLed metadata accuracy. Otherwise I have to get metadata book by book.

But you can extract covers book by book, lots faster than Fetch Metadata.
