Text has nothing special (font,color, images). It is the least, but fairly clean to convert from (Hard returns with no blank line between Paragraphs ot no paragraphs starting with TAB, excepted).

Under the hood, Calibre uses HTML. My guess that EPUB or HTML are good 'master' formats.
