I'm anticipating the same predicament and here's what I've gathered so far - aside from a working browser to access all your online research sources, something like ezPDF for your offline (digital) sources, the ability to send webpages to e-ink, and the whole proprietary e-ink/journal/reader side (no custom software being used for it just the stock wacom/entourage setup) you shouldn't really need much, if anything else unless you want a notes app for the tablet side too, which I'm sure you can find.
