Reduced to a generic question (native GUI verse portable GUI), my take is it really depends on your purpose and your audience. For this specific purpose, I think that the portable GUI is the way to go. If I was writing a lrf reader, i.e. an application that someone would be spending a lot of time in , then I would probably go with the native GUI.
