This is a very normal thing. Experts say most people only wear 20% out of what they own over and over again. Just hang all your hangers in the wrong direction and when you wear something you make sure its hanger is facing for the easy way out of the closet (right direction). This way you will find out very fast which clothes you wear and which not.

Then you set a timeline for getting rid of the rest. If you start now, you should be good after spring. If you divide your summer and winter clothes you can make two timelines. Sell what you can and make a list of what you REALLY need. Everything you own should be working with at least three other of your clothing items to give you versatility. If done right all you'll need is ten to twelve basics and tons of accessories.

Right now I own 8 Miyake pieces and try to find out if I have all I need for every occasion that arrises.

1 black Madame-T wrap that serves as 3 different blouses and 3 different dresses at least
1 black long trousers
1 black capri trousers
1 long skirt and 1 sweater which are reversible and offer 4 different looks
1 sleeveless olive shirt
1 olive skirt that falls just below the knee
1 black cardigan

I am saving up for a second Madame-T wrap in rust, for which I already made a down payment.

Of the "normal" clothes, like a white shirt and dark jeans, I only own the minimum.

3 dress shirts (white, light pink and light blue) Eterna
1 dark Armani jeans
1 navy velvet blazer
1 red wool blazer
3 riding pants( navy, chocolate and black)
1 cardigan in light grey
3 merino wool sweaters (red, blue, marigold)
1 kilt (black watch tartan)
3 black t-shirts (short sleeves, 3/4 and long sleeved)
1 white t-shirt
1 cream silk blouse Van Laack
And my coats (Burberry and Aquascutum) and down parka.

All jeans, coats, shoes and handbags should be the most expensive you can afford. Shirts and stuff just Gap or the like will make it cost effective.
