Hate to say but on both Fedora and Ubuntu the trash is hidden to the same degree as on Windows. A straight
ls within MY home directory reveals no sign of a Trash; instead it's down in
.local/share/Trash which, since entities starting with a . are not shown by default, is as hidden as it is on Windows.
