I think it depends on what you plan to do with it. I already have an iPad and a kindle. If I judged the devices alone, I'd say both were better then the Edge.. however, the Edge has features they don't. If you like to take notes, (nothing beats Wacom) research, annotate documents, save webpages to Epub, attach notes and websites to your book, then the Edge has a lot to offer that the other devices don't.
If you want a media device for games and videos, keep the Thrive.
