No, I know exactly how may users it would drop. Every download is recorded. For 0.3.4 Linux versions had 7,459 downloads. This is versus Windows and OS X's 70,461 downloads. Not to mention the x86 Linux build (the most popular Linux build) only has 717 more downloads than the source archive.
Not everyone wants to build from source but that's what you have to put up with using a platform that is a a small minority. You can't get TurboTax, Paint.net or any number of other applications on Linux. That's the truth of being a Linux user (last year I was one for 10 years).

This statement assumes that my primary goal is increasing marketshare. Not to mention that every alternative I know of is proprietary and doesn't support Linux at all.

I will but only because of the number of people here, on MobileRead, use the Linux version. People who actively contribute and use Sigil on a regular basis. My goal is to make and keep Sigil being useful and helpful for ebook creation. As long as it's fun to work on and someone finds it useful than I will continue to work on it.
The idea of dropping Linux builds is simply a product of me trying to prioritize my time. For instance I haven't decided if I want to keep the x64 Linux build because the x86 version will work on the majority of x64 distors and Sigil doesn't get any real benefit from a x64 version.
