It's similar to what some (amateur) photographers may tell you, in that the enthusiasm of discussing all the merits and details (technical, aesthetic, social, etc.) of the hobby with others, and following interesting online information down rabbit holes, and learning about methods and getting ideas, sometimes distracts from the part of photography where you, you know, actually take photos.

I find it quite, quite frustrating...difficult habits to break.

Yes, I have an amateur astronomer at home who is guilty of that! Just occasionally he does get the telescope outside to look at those shiny things in the sky!
