The reality is that the WiFi chipset has a fairly minimal BOM cost. The chips these days are usually on the order of 1-2$ each, and some SoC (system on-chip) models include WiFi support in the chip itself meaning it costs less than that.
I really doubt such a small unit cost at this point is gonna be passed onto the customer if they left it out (and depending on the chips they pick, would be in the hardware anyhow).
