Personally, I have 3G on my Kindle 3. I use the 3G about once a month. It's occasionally useful, but I have a nice WiFi router than can cover my entire house and back yard, which is where I use the K3 the most.
If I had to do it over, I might save the $50 and just get the WiFi version. That's a stiff price for something you use once a month. The big advantage is being able to buy a book when I'm traveling. That's not really a dominant argument. YMMV.
