I just upgraded to Lion this week. The only difficulties I encountered were:
1. It took a long time to download and then install using a 6/5 MB/sec cable connection. So, do it when you have some time.
2. After downloading Safari would not work. I did the limited things I know how to do when an application won't respond. that didn't work. I went to the Apple help site, the things suggested I had already done. I called the Apple help line and spoke to three representatives over two days. the first person had me try a number of things and then suggested re-downloading Lion. I did but Safari still wouldn't work (I was able to use Firefox, which worked fine throughout the process). The third representative, at a higher level of help, was able to work me through the process and get Safari working (using it right now).
So, my take away advice is to have some time when you do the download and, perhaps, wait a bit longer for some bug fixes unless you have to upgrade right now. This is tempered by forewarning you that my level of expertise is probably quite a few degrees below the level of most participating here.
