@maianhvk:
Well, the Kindle DX is not available in Germany...not really. I can purchase it via amazon.com, but there's a hefty extra price tag on it. The entire thing would cost around 280 Euros plus another 100plus for customs and shipping and then I'm at 200% of what a Kindle 3 would cost here...then I'd be at a price range where I could also buy a new notebook. That might not be as handy, but it would surely be the best thing to display PDF-files.
@susan_cassidy:
I haven't really checked out what amazon offers so far, but apparently the amount of German-language ebooks exploded in May of this year, so I'm confident I will find content. And then there's also gutenberg.org and archive.org.
@jocampo:
As said, amazon, gutenberg.org and archive.org. And just where I find stuff. I won't replace all paperbooks with ebooks from now, I just want to have something where I can read an electronic document without having to sit in front of my computer the entire time.
A tablet (especially the 10"-ones) have, of course, the advantage of size and applications, but they have the serious disadvantage of a standard screen (so no e-ink which is easier for the eyes), a hefty price-tag and a rather poor performance when it comes to power. Plus, a really good tablet costs as much as a notebook and then I have the problem that I don't really like to spend so much money for something (tablet), that can do less than a notebook.
I hope that wasn't too confusing.
