Calibre's library can be anywhere you choose (bt if you don't make an active choice it's probably where ScalyFreaks suggests).

According to the error message ADE is NOT "monitoring" anything on the computer, but rather the Kobo.

My guess: When the Kobo gets connected ADE reads it's database, and that database suggests the book should be there. However, it's not. Hence the message.

Why does ADE think it's there? Well, that is probably because of some sort of Calibre and/or user error. The OP insists that the book has never been transferred to the Kobo, but even though it has never been the intention to do so it may have happened. We don't always do what we THINK we're doing...

What I'm saying with this is basically that you actually don't have anything to support the statement that ADE "monitors" anything except the connected device.
