As long as you don't mind the DRM, I'll pay a buck or two more for a book that I can eliminate the DRM on & not be locked to one device. For fiction I'm not sure Amazon really has that many more titles that a majority of folks are looking for. But then I haven't really paid attention to what Sony's store has at the moment.

I have seen a few cases where SONY is cheaper but, by and by, Amazon's prices are much cheaper than any of their competitors (SONY/Fictionwise/Diesel-books/booksonboard)

The $9.99 'cap' is true for most 'bestsellers' that are coming out as a hardcover equivalent, but from what I've observed they have plenty of books that are within $1 plus of minus of prices elsewhere. Depends on what you're reading.
For me if I had the Kindle I'd still be buying books elsewhere so I wasn't locked into anyone's DRM so I'll stick with my Sony since I already had it. I'm hoping that with more e-ink competitors out there now we'll see some better innovation in the next generation of devices.
