I am very satisfied with my Kindle 3, just bought a second one for my wife. Do keep in mind its limitations: can read mobi and prc in addition to the Amazon azw format. PDF's is just a hit or miss because the print is so small in the Kindle screen.
I do like the epub format and use my iPad for those but I like the portability of the Kindle, the no glare screen, long battery life. I also use Calibre to convert ebooks to Kindle format.
You can order one and test for a week or two, send it back if you don't like it.
