Called Staples. Yes, the wifi is available for $150 aprox. But one cannot buy gift cards. One has to buy direct from Amazon, so it is not anonymous because one has to use a credit card.

I suppose one could buy gift cards from one of the many Vancity Credit Union branches here (maximum $500). But even that is iffy, as some businesses require that the card be registered. OK, so one can register it to John Doe at 1234 ABC street. But I hate having to deceive or jump through hoops.

So, there is something to be said for paper. Nobody asks you to give them your life story in order to read 'Our Enemy the State' or 'How to Sell your Body Organs'. At least Amazon fought in court the US government's wanting access to purchasers reading choices and won no?
