Librarians like the Nook because it currently will do epubs which libraries have in abundance through Adobe Digital Editions. The Kindle won't have this until the end of the year. The nook touch is WiFi only so be aware that your sample may not have that available. Also is has less contrast on the screen but unless you compare it to a Kindle, it shouldn't be an issue. I had a regular nook for a year until I tried the Kindle and dumped it like a hot potato for a number of reasons, but I don't think your kids will care about most of them. The password issue is significant and it could solve some of your problems, as long as it doesn't lock out anything you want them to get and given the pressure you are getting from the administration, it is not worth any hassle. Either one will do what you want.

Be aware, you can download what would have been considered pornography just a few years back, on either devices for free from Amazon or B&N. Just be prepared.
