I have less than 16"x 12" of work space on my counter, between the sink and the stove top. There is just enough floor room for one person to pass behind the other while one is working at the counter... if you are really good friends...
Japanese kitchens can be 'small.'
This is exactly the size of our kitchen, except where the 'red' is, is a wall, so there is just the narrow space between the wall and the work area. The work area is exactly the same although our cooker is tall due to a broiler beneath the hobs. Japanese friends think we have a rather large kitchen...
