Yes, in fact I tried both....

But the error message I gave yesterday is the one of calibre;exe with calibre-portable.exe I get a different error message :
"Failed to launch the calibre program -Le fichier spécifié est introubale (Error code 2)".

I also tried to move the Calibre folder directly to C:\ (before I had it in a subfolder), same results.

Also note that the version with installer works...
