Update:
Start Calibre
Attach device
THEN reset columns to default and all the columns become visible again. Any attempt to return configuration to custom will be ruined when the device is next attached as you once again must reset to default.
This is a workaround until whatever causes it is fixed...but should I do a bug report or something for this?
Pardon my ignorance of your processes, and thanks for the input. It isn't "ideal" but I can work with it.
