I concur. I suppose people just want to make a mountain out of a molehill. Particularly when it comes to a giant like Amazon, everyone wants to invent reasons to hate them.
We've gone from hating the very existence of DRM in

better? Really? Here's the answer:
they all suck. But I guess they're here to stay.
Anyone who buys a DRMed ebook from any retailer can easily strip and convert it into the format of their choice. It's not an issue. No one's being 'locked-in' against their will.
And I can see the rebuttal - what about the people who aren't techie enough to know how to do that? Well, for them it's not a problem. Non-techie people will simply buy books from their respective retailers. Nook users will buy from B&N, Kobo users will buy from Kobo, and Kindle users will buy from Amazon. I don't think too many non-techies sit around fretting over 'Digital Rights Management'.
