Calibre not remembering column layout

I am wondering if I'm the only one having this problem or not.
I am running version 8.11 and I have one custom column called Read which is a Yes/No column. If I change the default view and move the read column to before the title column, close Calibre and re-open it, the column is not displayed at all. I have to click on the column header bar and set the display back to default before I can my custom column again. I have my Sony 505 hooked up when this happens.
Am I doing something wrong for Calibre not to remember my custom column layout?
