Using the table of contents (AKA the "TOC") is probably the best route for your particular example, assuming the book has a properly built TOC.

With the book open, you could also press MENU and select "Search this book..." entering "Mathew" in the search field. This will result in a list of every place in the book where the search string exists. This would be a very long list for your example, but would find only two if you were searching for "Shalmaneser" (I think I spelled it correctly). If you were looking for a particular phrase and accurately knew 3-4 words then searching for that phrase would generally result in either a unique result or at least a short list. BTW, if you just start typing while on the HOME screen the search window will open and when you click to run the search the Kindle will search every book on the device.
