No, you aren't necessarily shy just because you are introvert. But I think the need for time alone and inclination to socialise less means that introverts as a general rule don't "practise" being around other people as much, and that can make some people more or less shy because you are unsure about what to do in certain situations. Personally I feel more insecure in what I call un-structured social situations, like parties, than structured social situations, like a class or at work. When I know what I'm "supposed" to do, I can relax more and probably appear more outgoing as a result. Another reason to stay quiet is, of course, that I simply don't feel I have anything to say on the current subject.
