I haven’t used Facebook because I could never figure out why I should want to create a dossier on myself and put it on the Internet. I did go over to Google+ and I read through their brief tour. I thought it might have possibilities for bibliophiles.

I find I do trust Google more than most other big businesses and that includes trusting their technology and their staff with my data. And the site seems to have some promise although I don’t think I fit their targeted audience for meet-ups and socializing with friends. I wondered, however, if it couldn’t be used to find and discuss literature and ideas.

Finding the good books has always been the hard part for me (I finish reading less than half the books I buy). A live forum might work better than the static approach of bulletin board approach and the customer reviews.

Barnes and Noble caught my attention when they added “social features” to the nooks. Not to criticize the nooks (I love mine) but live discussions like Google+’s “huddles” and “circles” piping book ideas to people with similar interests through "circles" might work better than static features alone.

I don’t wish to hijack this thread but is anyone else thinking along those lines?
