best i can seem to come up with is either..

PID=$(ps -ef | grep mplayer | awk '{print $2}' | sed -n 1p)
kill -9 $PID

to put in an sh script but i cant get it to work

or just a

!kill -HUP `pidof mplayer`

should work ?
