Clue 6: A musical act that had a hit song on the Billboard Chart performed in this movie, but did not perform that song. The musical group Timbuk 3, who had a hit with the song "The Futures So Bright, I Gotta Wear Shades", perform in a bar in the movie.
Clue 7: Although filmed in the 1980s, this movie is related to a type of movie from another era. This movie reflects a type of film called "film noir" which appeared in the 1950s.
Clue 8: One of the cast members appeared in a very influential science fiction movie. Brion James, who appeared in the science fiction movie "Blade Runner", appeared as a detective in this movie.
Clue 10: A novel is the driving force of the movie. A student's homework assignment in the form of a novel is what ultimately drives the events of the movie.
Clue 11: The directors have won an Emmy award. The directors won an Emmy award for the title sequence for the television show "Friday Night Videos."
Clue 12: One of the cast members appeared in the movie "The Sting." Jack Kehoe, who played one of the detectives, appeared in "The Sting."
Clue 13: This movie shares a premise with another movie. This movie shares the same premise with the movie "D. O. A." from 1950, a fatally poisoned man seeks the individual who murdered him.
Clue 14: One cast member, while a well-known actor, is also well known for his voice due to his work on a television series. Daniel Stern provided the voice of an adult Kevin Arnold as the narrator in the television series "The Wonder Years."
Clue 16: The two stars of this movie previously appeared in another movie together. Dennis Quaid and Meg Ryan appeared together in the movie "Innerspace."
Clue 17: One cast member played three roles in another movie. In the movie "Joe Versus The Volcano", Meg Ryan played three roles.
Clue 18: Although the movie credits three writers for the story, only one individual actually wrote this movie's story. The two writers of the original version of "D. O. A." received writing credit for the movie.

Clue 23: A cast member, better known at the time of this movie for dramatic roles, is now well known for a comedic role. Jane Kaczmarek appears in the television sitcom "Malcolm In The Middle."
Clue 25: One cast member has appeared in three movies with the same co-star, with one of the movies prominently featuring another movie, and another of the movies being a remake. Meg Ryan has appeared in three movies with Tom Hanks: Joe Versus The Volcano, Sleepless In Seattle (where the movie "An Affair To Remember" is featured prominently), and You've Got Mail (a remake of "The Shop Around the Corner").
