To a large extent it would depend on where the break in the e-ink screen occurred - if it was the lower half of the screen there shouldn't be too much electronics there, it's mostly battery in the EE.

Strangely enough, even though we work in hardware for a living I've never taken my EE apart just for a look see and I'm not breaking the rule I enforced when I started the business - too many times we get equipment in for repair that someone just took apart to see how it worked. Yes, if anything does go wrong with mine I'll take it apart, and document it with pictures and notes but as long as it works it stays together.
