There's bookmarks for favorite passages and TOC indexes for quickly finding something the reasonable way, rather than flipping madly back and forth until finding what you want. TOC is not that practical with a pbook because it often means you should manually remember the page you're currently reading to get back to later, but that is handled automatically by an ereader.

Flipping is not practical at all and emulating it is as much a waste of time as emulating page flipping animations; limiting lending digital copies to one per time to your own deprivation of your digital copy for the period; or coffee spots in the pages...
