A lot of good recs. I didn't see Carrie Vaughn's Kitty books (about a werewolf with a radio talkshow) or Ilona Andrews' Kate Daniel's series (Magic Bites, I think is the first book). I also liked the Webmage by Kelly McCullough (computer hacker in a world where magic is now controled by a master computer). The Wildside books might fit too (first is Traveler). Have you tried The Parasol Protectorate? It begins with Souless.
