I think they are all pretty sturdy. I have a K1 that is going strong. A DXG and a K3. All have spent time in backpacks, at the beach, and traveling. None have had any problems.

All of the e-readers have had some type of mechanical problem with the first batch released. The Sony's had screen issues as did the K2. The K3 has had some problems with the keys. The Nook Classic and Touch have had a few glitches. None have been major.

I have read reports of broken screens for all of the e-readers. I have read about software glitches for all of the e-readers.

You will be fine with pretty much any e-reader. If you are concerned about problems take a look at the customer service. Most Kindle owners who have had problems report a smooth replacement process with the new Kindle arriving in a day or two. I have read posts where BN folks have not had problems replacing their Nooks at the store.
