Does it happen to all kinds of files, or only in specific file types, e.g. PDF in reflow mode?
Especially big PDF in reflow takes time to calculate the next page, so just leafing through it will get stuck sooner or later (same is true for epub, but the lag is considerably smaller).
You are not likely to encounter this behavior during normal reading, because the time it takes to read a page will give the device ample time to recalculate.
If this also occurs during normal operation, you might consider to reflash the FW
