Kobo Wifi unresponsive

Must be something going around... ( I see one 1st gen kobo owner with similar problem just posted, but this is the WiFi and not the exact same symptom, so I make a new topic)

Reader appears to be charged (red light was on for a while and then turned to blue)

The "off" screen is showing.

When I try to turn it on the steady blue light goes on but nothing happens on the screen and the light stays steady (instead of the ususal flashing after a short while befor it turns off)

Computer does not recocgnize it (the red charging light goes on, but no change in screen)

Any idea how to get out of this? The reader was updated to firmware 1.9 and appeared to be working, but was the left alone (it's a spare reader) for a couple of weeks.

I have tried paper clip, holding various combinations of buttons that has been suggested when Googling. (Menu - center pad - on/off for example)
