But I don't remember any of the girls I grew up with NOT having some sort of Sweet 16 party. Really just a more formalized birthday party. I remember that I had to buy my girlfriend a corsage, and getting really flustered trying to pin it on her while her parents looked on! I was afraid her father would shoot me!

see, I was thinking big fancy party. I was taken out to a nice dinner by my folks and given a pair of ruby earrings (birthstone), and did the same thing with my daughter, she got a pair of sapphire earrings.

my daughter competed in draft horse competitions all through jr. and sr. high school (think the big budweiser wagons). one of the competitions had them driving a pattern that they had to remember around the little orange traffic cones. there was one boy that she was extremely competitive with, they traded off first and second for years, and would trade off state championships as well. the first year she won state, they actually had to get out a ruler to measure the tire tracks going around the cones. that was the first year she won state. Incidentally, the young man now drives full time for the "Express Hitch" and for whatever reason was chosen to drive the "royal couple" at the Calgary Stampede;
