I never see e-readers unless I leave town... I did see several on the plane when I recently flew from the NW to southern CA. Here in town, the only time I've ever seen another was at library e-reader "play dates". I know folks have them here, thanks to the library play dates, but maybe I'm the only one besides hubby who regularly takes mine out and about. We often take them with us to restaurants. I'll whip mine out at the grocery store if I have to stand in line long.
I have gotten a few comments on both Nook and Sony as "Is that one of those e-reader gadgets?" Or, "I've heard about those, never seen one before." or "Are you reading a book?"
As yet, I've not once heard the "Is that a Kindle?" comment that many non-Kindle owners seem to post that they get.
As for the library "play dates", other than a small older Sony model the library owned as an example of a different brand of e-reader, I'm the only one that has shown up with a Sony so far.
This is a small town though, population around 17,000 and in a rural area. So one doesn't really expect to see wads of hi-tech gadgets. I haven't seen any tablets of any kind out in the wild either. Nor do you see many pulling out a netbook or a laptop.
