That might have done it! It wouldn't work on Calibre, but then Kobo popped up and registered it. Then Kobo transferred a couple books I had gotten for me a long time ago (that I don't know how to get from kobo to the sony) into it, and then Calibre seemed to kick in. Waiting on it to process and show me.
