One article I read said the 3rd quarter would have 2 new Kindles, one with a touch screen, as well as a tablet. With 3G generating 20% more book sales, it looks like we will have it for a while, especially if they are getting price offsets from AT&T for ads. It is just possible that Kindle 3G is a profit center for both Amazon and AT&T, especially as B&N has dumped it.

As for the new cheaper model, that price is just what I was waiting for. My order went through a few hours ago. Finally, I get something just after the price drop.
