Greetings all - got a Kindle over a week ago, after years of struggling with reading books on PDAs (the Tungsten that folded out for a larger screen) and on the PC.
Choosing the Kindle over the others was a pretty close decision - I finally went with Amazon just because I think they have a little more "pull" with publishers and I'm likely to find more of the "still in copyright but years-old" favorites eventually produced in .azw. I wanted an e-reader that worked well and didn't particularly care about bells and whistles (especially marginal ones) and the Kindle is a pretty good e-reader. I don't use it to read blogs, newspapers or magazines.
I have an extensive library of physical books, but, due to space constraints, I'm limited to "keepers" and the e-reader format means I can store books on the computer or just delete them, as I like. The Kindle's price on just-released books means I can buy the new title on day of release for roughly $9.99 and then, if I really like the book and think it's a keeper, buy it when it's released in paperback to add to the physical library. It'd be nice if I could sell things back, but given how few places buy books anymore, I end up giving paperbacks to Goodwill or the like anyway, so deleting them off a hard drive is just about the same thing.
So - hi, all!
