Like the update that allows you to read library books? Or books from any other source? Once you buy a kindle you are a dedicated Amazon customer, with no other options. And if, one day, Amazon makes a blunder and disappears (and this has happened to technology companies a lot bigger than Amazon) then you'll never be able to read any of your books ever again.
