I think indeed, that although you live in a beautiful country, it isn't a place where the reward for a job isn't found in the paycheck...
I have another ereader than you have, but when I plug my reader into my PC, I get a message (on the reader) that I have to make a choice between charging my device, or 'connecting' it... Maybe it's something like that for yours?
