I'm sorry you and so many others are having trouble with the update.
Serena, I'm afraid your solution (so elegant!) isn't working for most people.
When the beta first came out (remember, Ermine is technically a beta) many people had to try multiple times to get it to run. Then there were others, like me and Serena, who got it done easily just by asking for an update. (I had opted in to the beta.)
If you are carefully following all the steps, and checking the very good suggestions in this thread, you will eventually get the update. In case you somehow missed it, here are the official instructions:

Make sure you have the update for the
Pocket eDGe, not the eDGe 2.0 (which is a much larger creature!
).
