A manga I'd recommend is "Sayonara, Zetsubou-Sensei (English Translation Of Title: "Goodbye, Mr. Despair") - The Power of Negative Thinking" by Koji Kumeta. It's a very funny series about an extremely depressed teacher of a class of very unusual students, each with his/her own quirks. As two examples, one student can only communicate with others via text messaging, and another student with thinning hair has so little presence that people literally can't see him even when he's standing in front of them (at the most they might hear a voice from somewhere) unless his bald spot is exposed. I've read six volumes so far (and have the seventh on order), and I haven't been disappointed with any of them.
