I agree
Just to confort you a little bit, I bought an Asus EEE Note EA-800.
I can't tell how great is the WACOM, everything is good but the PDF reader is retarded in it's implementation, so is the annotation system that works with it.
Couple of things to give you an idea: if you switch to landscape you loose the tools, you can only read, no annotations!!
if you change the direction of the text for the document (can do that playing with Adobe Acrobat) just to simulate the landscape mode the highlighter tool doesn't help you any more because it is designed jut to work from east to west to say so. If you go with it north to south or vice versa you get a line like the pen does!
I found that the pen in PDF mode has a poorer precision when it comes to draw vertical lines in PDF mode. That means that if you put your wacom pen on the document the line underneath has a slight offset and to underline correctly a sentence you have to guess where to put the pen. Again that is if you switch the direction of the PDF text doc so you can have landscape like reading and annotation tools
In drawing mode there is no zoom, can you believe that? In other words you can not zoom in, fix some details or do detailed sketching, and after that zoom out. This is a very basic function for many programs like this
The device is ideal for a student who wants to take notes and record voice (max 2h) but... has strange limitations like the ones above mentioned which make the tool not usable as PDF reader with annotation capabilities. It would also be ideal for people who have to do sketches, small sketches actually, real estate agents totake notes, and pictures and so on. Anyone who needs a more precise sketching can order it. Te device is somewhere in the middle between a tablet and an eink reader.
PDF reading is OK, doing a very decent job in landscape mode.
There are many other things poorly implemented and I do believe that the guy who designed the PDF reader had not done this before. Cheap implementation of the annotation function by recording everything like a picture and storing the coordinates of these in a database. I believe that this decision led to the a problem like no annotation tools in landscape mode....
These being said I am too, decided to wait for a better 10". I will probably buy an IPAD or Android, I am verry happy with the ezPDF reader and Repligo PDF reader, both very good progrmas, they have squized my Nook Touch to maximum, so bad that the screen is not a bit bigger.
I would buy a 7-8-10" eink Android based ereader in an instant if I could find one. If you are aware of any please let me know. With the two progams mentioned above, with a min 7" screen and working in landscape mode you will be OK I can promise you.
